Your Black Friday Checklist
If you've already had your home's air ducts cleaned and are looking for additional ways to improve your home's indoor air quality, with Black Friday right around the corner, there's no time like the present to shop for home appliances like air purifiers, HEPA vacuums, and humidifiers. But be careful out there - it's easy to get caught up in the frenzy and panic of Black Friday, so we've created a Black Friday checklist to help you navigate the lowest priced products of the year.
Because Black Friday is often an elbow-to-elbow contact sport, make sure you know exactly what product you're going after, and where you're going to find it. Read ads and price-compare before you head out the door by checking out Black Friday deals sites like DealNews.com that let you filter your searches by product category. If you find a great deal at one retailer, look around to make sure you can't find it at a better price somewhere else.
Timing is everything.
Big box retailers Wal-Mart and Target will open their doors at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day while the popular electronics and appliances store HH Gregg is pushing the envelope even further, opening at 4:00 p.m. Meeting in the middle at 5:00 p.m., Best Buy plans to open at 5:00, close at 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning, and re-open seven hours later at 8:00 a.m.
Online retailers like Amazon and Overstock are offering up deals prior to Black Friday, using lightning deals and flash deals that are available for short periods of time, starting at the top of every hour.
Be smart, not a sucker.
Doorbuster specials are marketing tactics designed to get you in the door, but the special offered may not always be the best product for your needs. This is especially true for big-ticket items such as TVs. Products like those, particularly derivative models created specifically for Black Friday events, might have lower specs or fewer features than standard products from the same manufacturer. Your retailer-of-choice might be able to lower the price of a step-up model as opposed to the bare-bones set, so don't be afraid to ask for a better price on the product you really want.
Apps, apps, apps.
Before heading to the store, make sure your phone is loaded with comparison-shopping apps like PriceGrabber or ShopSavvy that allow you to price-compare as well as place orders and monitor items via a personal watch list. A lot of price comparison apps have a bar-code scanner to help you compare prices and a QR-code reader for coupon codes and special Black Friday deals.
