Dirty Places in Your Home:Keeping Your Home Clean
- Kitchen - The kitchen is a top dirty place in your home. Use cutting boards made from nonporous materials, and if possible, use separate cutting boards for raw meats and fruits/veggies; wipe down stove knobs, countertops, faucet handles, and sinks as you cook. Make sure you're washing your hands; and be sure to sanitize your sponge daily by placing in the microwave for two minutes at a time, or adding it to your dishwasher when you run a load of dishes.
- Pets - Run rubber and plastic toys through the hot cycle in your dishwasher once a week, while putting fabric toys through the washing machine every couple of weeks; and wash your pet's food bowl every single day, either through the dishwasher or with hot water and dish soap.
- Bathroom - The bathroom is also one of the top dirty places in your home. Wash your toothbrush holder in the dishwasher once or twice a week, and wipe it with a disinfecting wipe once or twice a week.
- Air Quality - According to NADCA (The HVAC Inspection, Maintenance, and Restoration Association), 40 pounds of dust is created in a typical six-room home every year, and these contaminants are pulled into your HVAC system and recirculated up to seven times a day. Without routine cleanings, your air ducts can spread contaminates and intensify the dirty places in your home. To avoid the health hazards that come from unhealthy air, consider having your HVAC system inspected and cleaned by an air duct cleaning professional to remove the particulates and chemicals that are trapped in your ductwork.
