HOW TO DECREASE HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS THIS SUMMER
Summer is here, and the temperatures are high and suffocating. You're probably trying your best to keep your house cool, but if you're relying too much on your air conditioner, your electric bill is probably skyrocketing. If your wallet is feeling the pinch of a sky-high energy bill, you need to know how to decrease high electric bills.
Summer is the perfect time to lounge by the pool, develop a tan, and enjoy the sun. Increased temperatures, though, can put a damper on your fun in the sun. Heatstroke is an all-too-real possibility in the high-heat of summer. Heatstroke is caused by your body overheating, a result of prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Heatstroke requires emergency treatment and symptoms include high body temperature, altered mental state, alteration in sweating (hot and dry to the touch), nausea and vomiting, headache, flushed skin, and racing heart rate. If you ever suspect someone of a heatstroke, call emergency services and move the person out of the heat and cool their body in any way possible.
While more common outdoors, indoor heatstroke is possible, commonly in homes without air conditioning and inside hot vehicles.
Cooling your home is essential to reducing your risk of heatstroke, but if money is tight, the high electric bills might stress you out. What you need to know is how to decrease high electric bills while keeping your house cool this summer.
HOW TO DECREASE HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING
There are some excellent ways to decrease your high electric bill while keeping your home cool inside. While you don't have to exclude the air conditioner from your cooling methods altogether, limiting its use will automatically decrease your energy bill.
Try blocking the heat from coming inside in the first place. Heavy drapes and blackout curtains go a long way toward keeping the sun and heat out and the chill from an air conditioner or fans in. Hang drapes and thick curtains in every window for the best effect, but if you have too many windows to afford to cover, opt for hanging drapes in your sun-catching windows, those the sun hits the most and the longest.
If you have unused or lesser used rooms of your house close the doors and try to keep them shut. You'll decrease the space your air conditioner has to cool, making it run less and more efficiently. Heat rises, so if you have an air condition unit running on the first floor by closing off the second story your air conditioner won't have to work as hard, saving you money.
If you can limit the amount of time you run the air conditioner, supplement its use with fans. Fans use far less energy than air conditioners, even if it takes more than one to cool off a room. With strategic placement, you can have fresh air circulating through the entire house using nothing but fans. Ceiling fans are the perfect addition to every bedroom. If your rooms don't already have them, install a ceiling fan above each bed to keep your family cool at night.
HOW TO DECREASE HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS WITH AIR CONDITIONING
If you can't seem to cool your house without the air conditioner running all day, try a couple of different approaches to decrease high electric bills while using air conditioning.
Have your air conditioning unit inspected and serviced at the beginning of every summer to ensure it's running at peak efficiency. Have the technician switch on an available energy saver mode.
If your air conditioner is on the older end, the energy saver mode is probably less useful than it used to be and less effective than newer models in the store. If your budget can afford it, consider replacing your unit before next summer.
An easy way to save is turning off the lights during the day. If you don't need them, don't turn them on. Use daylight as much as possible. You can make a sizeable difference in your electric bill by keeping the lights off.
HOW TO DECREASE HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS AND THE BENEFITS
Decreasing your high electric bills isn't just about saving money, it's also about improving your quality of living. Detox your bill, save money, detox your mind. Making ends meet is always stressful but finding new and inventive ways to save can go a long way towards a happier, healthier living space and family.
