Can you believe it? It’s already that time of year again! Halloween is just around the corner, with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and many others not far behind. You’ve probably already got a huge to do list, including the many gifts you want to find for all the loved ones in your life, not to mention the many decorations you’ll want to have to make your home beautiful and festive. All of that means a ton of your time and money are going to be spent in the remainder of the fall, so why not take some time to check out a few of our affordable holiday décor ideas? You’ll save money, add a personalized touch to your living and working spaces, and probably get some compliments from your family and friends too!

For around $10 to $15 depending on what you already have on hand, you can make an adorable but durable pumpkin to hang on your front door, or wherever you’d like to add a nice fall touch. Simply head to your local home improvement store and buy a section of dryer vent coil, a can of orange spray paint, and a roll of duct tape. You’ll also need some hot glue from an arts and crafts store if you don’t already have some at home, and some artificial moss will come in handy too. Family doing art projects togetherOn the way to or from the store, keep your eyes peeled for a small piece of wood that can serve as the pumpkin’s stem. When you get home, all you need to do is wrap the coil in a circle and duct tape it together, paint it orange, and hot glue the stem and moss over the duct tape to conceal it. To hang the pumpkin, just glue a loop of any fabric to the back of the duct taped portion – brown, black, or whatever color suits your fancy!

As the temperatures drop and the snow starts falling, wouldn’t it be great to have a cute little friend to make you and the people in your life smile? For this project, you’ll need several feet of smaller and larger diameters of dryer vent coil to make your snowman fatter on the bottom and smaller on the top. (And, obviously, you’ll also want to get some white spray paint this time!) Cut the sections of dryer vent to the desired lengths, coil them on themselves and add hot glue to hold the circles in place, then spray paint and stack them on top of one another. Glue old buttons onto the front for the eyes and shirt, then add a small piece of orange fabric for the nose. And, to make your little guy even more festive, you can sprinkle a mixture of Epsom salt and rainbow flakes onto some mod podge to hold it in place on the snowman. You can also buy a small top hat at a local craft store and grab a piece of any fabric you like to give him a scarf. Isn’t this fun? And so affordable! You’ll cut your costs in half compared to a retail item, and you’ll smile every time you see it.

Now that you’ve got the hang of things, this last one will be a cinch! All you’ll need this time is an 8-foot section of flexible aluminum duct – the more rigid kind will work best for this design – and a piece of red ribbon, plus your handy roll of duct tape. Just coil the aluminum duct around like you’ve done before, tape it together, and tie the ribbon around the taped area to conceal it. Then hang it in a favorite spot for a silvery, beautiful and merry wreath that will fill your home with holiday cheer!
