Fire Damage Is Often More Than Fire Damage

The visible damage caused by flames may only be part of the problem.

Smoke can travel throughout a building and affect rooms and materials that were never touched by the fire.

Soot can settle on walls, ceilings, flooring, furniture, fixtures and personal belongings.

Smoke odors can penetrate porous materials and remain after visible damage has been cleaned.

And there may be significant water damage from fire hoses and sprinkler systems.

That means restoring a fire-damaged property may require several types of restoration work at the same time.

Our Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Services

Fire Damage Cleanup

Once a property is safe to enter, our team evaluates the extent of the damage and determines which materials may be salvageable and which need to be removed.

For significant fires, cleanup may require extensive demolition before the remaining structural components can be properly cleaned and treated.

Smoke & Soot Removal

Smoke can travel far beyond the area where the fire occurred, entering adjoining rooms and concealed areas.

Soot can also vary depending on what burned. Residues may be dry, oily or difficult to remove without damaging the surface beneath them.

Our restoration professionals evaluate affected materials and use appropriate cleaning methods to address smoke and soot residues.

Smoke Odor Removal

Persistent smoke odors can remain when smoke particles and residues penetrate porous materials or reach hidden areas.

Professional odor removal focuses on addressing the source of the odor rather than simply masking the smell with fragrances.

Water Extraction & Structural Drying

Firefighting efforts can leave a surprising amount of water inside a property.

Fire hoses and sprinkler systems may saturate drywall, ceilings, insulation, flooring, cabinetry and furnishings.

AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast provides water extraction, drying and dehumidification in addition to fire and smoke cleanup, allowing our team to address multiple types of damage resulting from the same fire.

Emergency Board-Up & Property Protection

Broken windows, damaged doors and other openings can leave a fire-damaged property exposed to weather and unauthorized entry.

When needed, our team can board up affected openings to help secure the property while restoration work proceeds.

Real Fire Damage Restoration in Fort Walton Beach, FL

AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast recently responded to a major residential fire in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, caused by an exploding wheelchair battery.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Firefighters broke windows and used large amounts of water throughout the home to extinguish the fire. Although the structure was saved, the property suffered extensive fire, smoke, soot and water damage.

From Fire Damage to Complete Interior Demolition

Because of the severity of the fire, AdvantaClean first had to wait for a structural engineer to determine that the property was safe to enter.

Once cleared, the team boarded damaged windows and doors to secure the home and worked with the homeowner to determine which contents could be saved and which needed to be discarded.

Drying equipment was placed inside the property to address water from the firefighting effort.

The extent of the damage ultimately required a complete interior demolition, including removal of damaged walls, ceilings, doors, cabinetry, countertops and furnishings.

Cleaning & Encapsulating the Structure

After damaged materials were removed, the remaining structure was thoroughly cleaned.

AdvantaClean then encapsulated the exposed structure from the roof deck to the floor, preparing the home for the reconstruction phase.

This Fort Walton Beach project demonstrates why professional fire restoration can involve much more than cleaning visible fire damage. Structural safety, water mitigation, demolition, smoke and soot cleanup, contents handling and structural treatment may all become part of restoring a single property.

For AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast, fire damage restoration is work our team performs for homeowners right here in our own Emerald Coast communities.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Process

Every fire loss is different, but restoration typically involves several important steps.

1. Confirm the Property Is Safe

Fire-damaged structures can present serious hazards. Restoration work begins only when the property can be safely entered.

2. Assess the Damage

We evaluate areas affected by fire, smoke, soot, odors and water to determine the appropriate scope of work.

3. Secure the Property

Damaged windows, doors and other openings may be boarded to help protect the property.

4. Address Water & Moisture

When firefighting has left water inside the building, extraction, drying and dehumidification may be required.

5. Remove Unsalvageable Materials

Materials that cannot be restored may need to be removed so affected structural areas can be accessed and treated.

6. Clean Smoke & Soot Residues

Salvageable materials and structural surfaces are cleaned using methods appropriate for the materials and residues involved.

7. Address Smoke Odors

Affected materials and areas are treated to help eliminate persistent smoke odors at their source.

8. Prepare for Reconstruction

Once mitigation, demolition, cleaning and treatment are complete, the property can move into the reconstruction phase.

AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast provides fire and smoke damage restoration for both residential and commercial properties.

Fire & Smoke Damage FAQs

Can smoke damage areas that weren't touched by the fire?

Yes. Smoke can travel throughout a building and affect rooms, surfaces and belongings far from the original fire. It may also enter wall and ceiling cavities and other concealed areas.

Why is there water damage after a fire?

Fire hoses and sprinkler systems may introduce substantial amounts of water into a property. That water can saturate flooring, drywall, insulation, cabinetry and other materials and may require professional extraction and drying.

Can belongings be saved after a fire?

Some belongings may be salvageable depending on the material and severity of the fire, smoke, soot or water damage. A restoration professional can help determine what may be recoverable.

How soon should fire damage cleanup begin?

Once the fire has been extinguished and the property is safe to enter, professional assessment and mitigation should begin as soon as practical. Smoke, soot and water can continue affecting materials after the fire itself is over.

Does AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast provide 24/7 fire damage cleanup?

Yes. AdvantaClean of the Emerald Coast is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for property damage emergencies throughout its Emerald Coast service area.
