PRIVATE SCHOOL FLOOD WATER DAMAGE REMOVAL

Location: Charlotte, NC 28270

Problem: School was out for a long weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon return on Monday, the staff arrived at a flooded basement of the Arts Building. The basement was home to all of the choir/band rooms as well as the storage for the school play costumes and sets.

While the facilities staff was quick to react and stop the leak from a water fountain on the floor above and remove all the ceiling tiles they needed help removing the water and drying the structure. Luckily a referral partner of ours sits on the board of the school so we got the call. Water damage had to be performed.

Solution: We arrived within the hour to assess the situation. Once we met with the board member and head of facilities we developed a plan as to not distract from the schools day to day activities.

Once the plan was in place we arrived with our extractors, dehumidifiers, and fans to start the process. We extracted over 200 gallons of water from the floors and air duct work and set 5 dehumidifiers and 13 fans. The structure was dry in 3 days and classes and practices could resume in the band/choir rooms. Water damage and air duct cleaning were performed and the school was very happy to return to normal.

IMPROPER WATER DAMAGE REMOVAL CAUSED MOLD GROWTH

Location: Charlotte, NC 28211

Problem: Our customer called us in to look at an area of her house that had experienced water damage. She had already hired a competitor to dry out the area. Upon opening the wall the competitor discovered mold and ignored it. They placed their fans and a dehumidifier pointing directly at the affected area and told her the mold could not be removed until it was dried, which is not accurate.

Luckily, the customer questioned their methods and hired an Industrial Hygienist to inspect their work. After the IH confirmed her suspicions she called on us to perform mold removal and make her home healthy again.

RETAIL NEEDS MOLD REMOVAL

Location: Charlotte, NC 28270

Problem: A local retail store received employee complaints about visible mold in the back of house area that was making them ill. The retailer contacted a local mold testing company and the area tested high for Penicillium/Aspergillus which required remediation.

This situation was particularly sensitive due to the employee complaint and the fact the store was unable to shut down for the remediation. The remediation would need to be completed in phases.

Solution: AdvantaClean set up a containment separating the back of house area in two sections. This containment was particularly tricky to set up since it was 20 feet high and 45 feet long. We also had to give the store employees access to the office/break room area.

Phase 1:

We brought in two scissor lifts to vacuum and hand wipe all exposed substrates, ducting and electrical fixtures as needed. Cleaned the contained area air ducts which also went on the sales floor, this needed to be completed after hours.

After further investigation during phase 1, it was discovered that the source of the mold was in an area that required us to remove a section of plywood, sheet rock and insulation 8 feet by 45 feet to properly remediate. This additional work was completed with minimal delay and we passed phase 1 clearance.

Phase 2:

Additional containment and hallways were set up to accommodate the store's needs and we repeated the cleaning process. Phase 2 clearance was passed, containment removed and we helped the store move back to the full back of house function.

All employee concerns were put to rest!

DRYER VENT CLEANING TO FIX PREVIOUS COMPANIES WORK

Location: Charlotte, NC 28211

Problem: AdvantaClean of East Charlotte was called by a property owner to clean a dryer vent for her tenant. When I spoke to the tenant to arrange a scheduling, she said she had already had another company out. Their method was to try to push the lint through with "a leaf blower". According to the tenant, when she questioned his methods, things escalated to the point he called her and her husband profane names and she had to have Security escort the contractor from the premises.

Solution: Our crew showed up and were professional and courteous. Our methodology involves pushing a hose of compressed air throughout the length of the dryer vent, from the dryer itself to where it vents outside, catching all dispelled lint with a vacuum. There was a major clog at a bend in the vent; although the customer originally called due to lack of air flow, it seemed likely the leaf blower had compressed the lint at the bend as it was unable to make the turn. Our crew spent some time and was eventually able to break up the clog. Upon completion, the dryer was reattached and turned on, and the vent exhaust was checked to ensure good air flow. Both the tenant and the property owner were very happy with the job.
